A local computer network Novell 4.11 under CDS/ISIS with 23 work stations has been built since 1979.
The following databases are being maintained:
- KOM - for the registration of all publications acquired by IVNL since the end of 1994,
- ABO - for the registration of periodicals received through subscription, exchange and donations in the current and previous year,
- DEP - for the registration of periodicals received through legal deposit in the current and previous year,
- P - electronic catalogue of periodicals at IVNL,
- PER - for individual and group registration of bound periodicals for the current and previous year,
- IW89 - containing bibliographical descriptions of newly acquired scientific literature in all languages and in all fields of knowledge since 1984,
- CDF - containing bibliographical descriptions of regional study materials since 1991,
- BKAT - electronic catalogue of books. Contains entries of books in Bulgarian and foreign languages, cartographic, graphic and printed music publications since 1996,
- PD - electronic catalogue of Petar Dinekov's personal library, donated to IVNL;
- KL - database facilitating the search of library items by call marks;
- PATT - for registration of patents;
- SK - cumulative catalogue of foreign periodicals in the research libraries in Plovdiv.
The Automation Department is also in custody of the local databases, maintained by the various departments in the library, such as the Reference Department, the Arts Department, etc.
The following databases on the bulletins of the National Bibliography, to which IVNL is subscribed, are also being maintained:
- Series 1 - BULGARIAN BIBLIOGRAPHY. Books, official publications, printed music, graphic and cartographic publications;
- Series 4 - BULGARIAN PERIODICALS. Newspapers, journals, bulletins and periodical collections;
- Series 5 - ANNALS OF ARTICLES FROM BULGARIAN JOURNALS AND COLLECTIONS;
- Series 6 - ANNALS OF ARTICLES FROM BULGARIAN NEWSPAPERS.
The search of a publication can be accomplished by author, title, call number, key word or part of a word, classification index, publisher, etc.
